Description

Great Rissington Hill is a large detached house built in the mid-19th century, with extensions added in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, featuring dressed stone quoins and a stone slate roof with ashlar stacks. It has a complex layout, with a rectangular main body that extends at the rear left and for a short distance to the left.

The house stands two storeys high with an attic, and it includes two-light hipped dormers. The entrance front is twin-gabled and is illuminated by 2, 3, and 4-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements, with the ground floor featuring 4-light casements that have king mullions. A central 12-panelled door is set back within a flat-chamfered 'Tudor'-arched surround. The entrance to the porch also has a wide 'Tudor'-arched surround, complete with a stopped hood and a relieving arch.

To the left-hand return, there is a two-storey stone-mullioned canted bay window. Additionally, a two-storey water tower has an entrance to the house at ground floor level, located where the main body returns to the left. The late 19th to early 20th-century wing features a forward-facing gable extending to the left, with a two-storey canted bay that includes stone-mullioned casements with transoms. All casements have glazing bars.

The building also features axial and lateral stacks, some of which are twin and some triple, all with moulded cappings and flat-chamfered skirtings. Ball finials adorn the gables, and lead drainpipes are decorated with twisted cable designs. The rainwater heads and gutters display rose decorations.
