Description
The stable block and cartshed, located to the northwest of Leafield Farmhouse, dates from the early 18th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with alternating flush quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building is a long range of two storeys, with an attached parallel structure to the west and a range at right angles to the east, which is not included in this description.
On the east side, there are two square openings on the first floor, and the south gable end displays a 3-light stone mullion window with a square hood mould. The ground floor includes a now sliding door, flanked by small 2-light wood mullion windows to the left, all set within large flush stone surrounds. To the right, there is a door leading to a staircase, two pairs of doors, an adjoining window with timber lintels, and two cart bays with timber lintels at the right-hand end. This building is one of two well-preserved structures that were part of a formerly much larger and significant farm group.
