Description

Ivy Cottage, including the garden wall, is a detached house dating from the early 19th century. It is built from coursed rubble limestone and features yellow brick chimneys and a stone slate roof, with a concrete tile roof on the outbuilding. The house is two storeys high with an attic, and there is a single-storey rear outshut with an attic, along with a two-storey outbuilding to the east that includes a garage.

The front of the house has a three-window arrangement, primarily featuring 19th-century four-pane sash windows in small plain openings. The doorway is located to the right of centre and has a six-panel door with an egg and dart enriched fielded design. An unusual porch is present, featuring an oriental-looking shaped pediment and a narrow entablature that displays 'IVY COTTAGE' in raised serif lettering, supported by two slender Ionic columns. There are three chimneys mounted on the ridges of the roof.

The outbuilding has 20th-century latticed casements and plank garage doors with a concrete lintel. The garden wall is smoothly rendered and topped with hooped iron railings, and there is a matching gate. The piers of the wall have weathered caps with ogee finials, some of which are missing. At the rear, the outshut features a gabled roof dormer, and there is also a gabled dormer on the main roof slope. The interior has not been inspected.
