Description
This is a barn and adjoining outbuilding from the 18th century, located approximately 7 meters northwest of Downs Farmhouse in Baunton. The structure is built of random squared limestone and has a stone slate roof. The barn is long and rectangular, featuring a lean-to extension along part of the rear wall, and a single unit outbuilding at the south gable end. The barn has double doors at the center of the east side, which faces the road, and a similar doorway on the opposite wall that is now blocked. There are a raking buttress and a buttress with offsets on the west wall. The adjoining outbuilding has an early plank door with strap hinges at the center of its roadside front, and a single row of pigeon holes below the eaves on the opposite side. Inside the barn, there are 7 bays, with 3 cruck trusses that have collar beams and double butt purlins in the bays at the north end; the other trusses are from the 20th century. The interior of the outbuilding is not accessible.
