Description

Foxcote House is a detached house built in the late 17th to early 18th century, with later additions from the late 18th to early 19th century and an extension dated and initialled K.C. 1930 on gable plaques. The house features coursed, squared, and finely dressed limestone, with an ashlar garden front on the late 18th to early 19th century range, a stone slate roof, and stone stacks.

The late 18th to early 19th century range is rectangular and has an 'L'-shaped range from the late 17th to early 18th century that projects forward on the right. There is an early 20th-century extension in Cotswold style at the rear of the late 18th to early 19th century range. Extensions and outbuildings from the 19th and 20th centuries running north from the latter are not of special interest.

The symmetrical garden front of the late 18th to early 19th century range is two storeys high with five windows, all featuring 2-light casements with marginal glazing bars and top opening lights, set within plain architraves. There is a band above the first-floor windows and a parapet. The central door from the 20th century has glazing bars and is topped by a fanlight with radiating glazing bars in a round-headed surround with a plain architrave.

The late 17th to early 18th century range on the right is 1½ storeys, with the gable end lit by two 2-light casements with marginal glazing bars flanking a 20th-century plank door, and a single light above on the ground floor. The rear wall has double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements. The 20th-century extension at the rear of the late 18th to early 19th century range is in Cotswold style and features twin gables with 1, 2, and 4-light stone-mullioned casements. The building has gable end, axial, and lateral stacks, some with moulded cappings, a hipped roof at the right gable end of the early range, and a hipped roof on the later 19th-century range. The stepped gable end coping is characteristic of the late 17th to early 18th century range. The interior has not been inspected.
