Description
Spring Bank Cottage is a former row of two houses that has been converted into a detached house. It dates from the mid to late 17th century, with additions from the 18th century. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone, with rubble and brick chimneys, and features a stone slate roof.
The cottage is two stories tall, with a single-storey rear outshut. The south front shows the earliest part of the building on the right, which has two half gables and a two-window arrangement. All windows are recessed chamfered mullioned casements with hoodmoulds; the ground floor left window is a three-light, while the others are two-light. There is a central doorway with a timber lintel and a plank door. A tall brick chimney is located at the lean-to on the east end, and a large ridge-mounted chimney indicates the original west end of the house. Beyond this, there is a leaded ground floor casement and a small casement in an eaves-mounted gabled dormer. The rear outshut has a catslide roof with two small casements. The interior has not been inspected.
