Description

Island Cottage is a detached house dating from the mid-18th century, with significant restoration and an addition made in the 20th century. It is built of random rubble limestone, with a rebuilt rubble chimney and a stone slate roof. The house has a two-story, L-shaped layout. The south front has a half-gable on the right side, featuring two 20th-century casement windows below concrete lintels. A central doorway, also with a concrete lintel and a 20th-century glazed door, is present, with a further 20th-century casement window to the left. The west end incorporates a lean-to against the gable end of the main range, with a half-gable to the rear wing, and 20th-century casement windows to the rear. The interior has not been inspected. Although altered, Island Cottage is included on the list for its group value, contributing to the tight grouping of buildings in The Bottom.
