Description
The Old Plough is a house and attached cottage located in Upper Oddington, dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, possibly constructed in two phases. The cottage, known as Plough Cottage, was converted from outbuildings in the 20th century and is not of special interest. The building features coursed, squared, and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks.
The Old Plough is two storeys high with an attic, which is illuminated by two and three-light roof dormers. The facade has four windows, featuring two and three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods and leaded panes. There are two 19th-century plank doors with strap hinges, one of which is studded, and the left-hand door is set in a segmental-headed surround. A large sandstone scratch sundial, dated 1774 in Roman numerals, was brought from the former rectory at Adlestrop around 1930. The building has gable-end and axial stacks, and the interior includes a spine beam.
