Description
Norcote House is a large detached house, likely built in the early 18th century, with later enlargements in the 19th century and alterations around 1928 by V.A. Lawson. The house features random coursed or coursed rubble stone and a stone slate roof, with scattered stone stacks. It has a double range layout with a projecting porch wing to the north and two cross ranges to the west, primarily two storeys high with an attic.
The south front is faced in roughcast and includes three 12-pane sash windows with flush stone quoins that are not covered by the roughcast. The ground floor has a large 19th-century canted bay window on the left, featuring full-length windows from the 20th century, and French windows on the right. There are also two small flat-roofed dormers and projecting eaves. The two cross wings to the west have 20th-century three or four-light casements on both the first and ground floors.
On the rear elevation to the north, the central main range has a projecting porch wing with double doors made of two fielded panels and one flush panel. Above this, there is a 12-pane sash window with large flush quoins and a 9-pane sash in the attic gable. The cross wing immediately to the west features small two-light casements with timber lintels on both the first and ground floors, as well as a single small attic light. Additionally, on the south side of the garden, there is a semi-circular ha-ha.
