Description

Mill House is a former mill located on the River Coln, now divided into three houses. It dates from the early to mid 17th century, with extensions made in 1827 and alterations in the mid 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble stone, featuring alternating flush quoins on the 19th-century work, and has a stone slate roof with large ashlar stacks, which have offset and moulded cornices.

Originally, the structure was likely a single main range with a cross wing to the right, later extended to the left and front. It has two storeys or a single storey with an attic. The main front, now designated as No 2, features two small gables to the right, each with 19th-century two-light stone mullions and square hoodmoulds with leaded casements. To the right, there is a similar three-light window below, and to the left, an original three-light window, with a plain chamfered flush stone doorway situated between them. There are two rows of dove perch holes below the eaves to the left and a small single light.

The cross wing to the right, now No 1, has similar 19th-century windows. The left-hand wing, dated 1827, and the front range also feature similar fenestration, along with a Tudor-arch doorway in the angle with No 2 and the remains of a mill race below. The rear facade of Nos 1 and 2 includes seven hipped dormers (two and five respectively). A mill has been recorded at this site since the late 11th century.
