Description

Whiteway Farmhouse is a late 18th to early 19th century farmhouse located in Cirencester. It is constructed of random dressed limestone and features a stone slate roof, along with two concrete block chimneys, one ashlar chimney, and a brick stack for the wash house. The building has a rectangular plan and includes a covered link to the wash house at the rear.

The farmhouse stands two storeys tall with an attic and a single-storey wash house at the back. Its symmetrical facade showcases three hipped half-dormers with glazing bar casements, and the ground and first floors are fitted with 12-pane sash windows. The original entrance features a six-panel door topped with a fanlight.

On the right-hand side, there is a single half-dormer, one half of which has leaded panes while the other has horizontal glazing bars. The first floor has two 16-pane sashes, and the ground floor has two 12-pane sashes. The left-hand side features a single 20th-century two-light casement window on the ground floor.

At the rear, there are two half-dormers with glazing bars, two 2-light casements with leaded panes on the first floor, a small 3-light window with leaded panes, and a 3-light window with a segmental head. There are also two original six-panel doors, one of which has a flat canopy above, leading to the rear entrance that opens into an open-sided covered walkway supported by timber.

Inside, the front right-hand room and entrance corridor have ornate cornices, while the left-hand room has a simpler cornice and a flagged floor. The original staircase features a stick balustrade, and there are two possibly original fireplaces with dentil decoration. The ground and first floor windows at the front have original panelled shutters.

Surrounding the farmhouse is a high limestone wall with coping that extends back to link with the farm buildings. This wall continues forward of the house with a gateway, returns across the front as a low wall, and then returns back as a railing and low wall.
