Description

Three cottages stand on London Road, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century. They are constructed of coursed squared limestone rubble with an artificial slate roof and three brick ridge stacks, one at the right end and one shared with the neighbouring property at number 12. Number 6, the rightmost cottage, was likely originally a double-fronted house, while number 8 was formed from the left-hand portion of number 6, and number 10 is a near-contemporary addition to the left. The cottages present a two-storey, three-window front. The first floor has three eight-over-eight sash windows in simple reveals with projecting stone sills. The ground floor features three similar sash windows and three doors with six flush panels; numbers 6 and 8 are wider than number 10, and have simple four-pane overlights. Two-storey lean-to additions, one in coursed squared limestone (number 6) and the others in brick (numbers 8 and 10), extend to the rear. Number 6 has a brick stack where the rear addition meets the main roof. The right side of number 6 includes a nine-pane window and a two-light leaded casement, both in simple reveals with exposed timber lintels and stone cills; a blocked gable opening has an exposed timber lintel. The interiors were not inspected.
