Description

The Thomas Heines monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard of the Church of the Holy Rood, approximately 12 metres south of the chancel. It commemorates Thomas Heines, who died in 1683, and is made of limestone. The tomb features a moulded plinth and has a sunken square inscription plaque on the north side, which is surrounded by a moulded border and adorned with stylized four-petal motifs in the marginal panels. The sides of the lyre-shaped ends are decorated with stylized foliate motifs.

On the south side, there is a sunken rectangular inscription plaque, which currently has no inscription, and is framed by a moulded margin. This border includes an intertwined moulding interrupted by rosettes, with marginal panels also featuring small four-petal motifs. The sides of the lyre-shaped ends mirror the foliate decoration found on the north side.

At either end of the tomb, there is a carved head in relief, and at the west end, a heraldic shield is displayed with foliate decoration. The monument is topped with a thick capping that has a moulded margin, making it particularly richly decorated.
