Pair Of Unidentified Monuments In The Churchyard Of The Church Of St Paul Circa 8/10 Metres East Of Monuments To William And Dorothie Chadwell

This is a pair of unidentified bale tombs located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Paul, approximately 8 meters east of the monuments to William and Dorothie Chadwell. Likely dating from the 17th century, these tombs are probably associated with the Chadwell family.

The southern tomb features a flat-chamfered base, with its south side divided into three panels. The central panel displays a heraldic shield with a raised zig-zag design, while the flanking panels have moulded margins decorated with a large diamond relief. At the east end, there is a raised circle bearing a heraldic shield similar to that on the south side. The north side lacks the lozenge decoration. The tomb is capped with a flat-chamfered top that has roll moulding along its lower edge, topped by a semi-circular 'bale' stone with bevelled ends.

The northern tomb, located about 30 meters north of the southern tomb, also has a flat-chamfered base and features three sunken panels with wide margins on either side. The central panel contains a heraldic shield within a circle, adorned with a zig-zag and crescent design. There are raised palm leaf decorations in the side panels, although one palm leaf panel is missing on the south side. This tomb has a simple capping with roll moulding along its lower edge and a ribbed 'bale' stone with incised decoration at either end.
