Description

Church Farmhouse is a former farmhouse located in Little Barrington Village, dating from the mid-17th century, 18th century, and 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof and features ashlar stacks. The building has a rectangular early 18th-century range that may have earlier origins, with a late 18th to early 19th-century extension at right angles at the front, creating an 'L'-shaped plan. The 17th-century part of the farmhouse is situated at the right gable end of the 18th-century range and appears to have been extended, as indicated by a blocked stone fire surround visible in the gable end. There is a small 19th-century extension and a 19th-century gabled porch in front of the remains of the 17th-century range.

The early 18th-century range has two storeys and an attic, illuminated by three 20th-century roof dormers at the rear. It consists of four bays, of which two are currently visible, featuring 20th-century two-light stone-mullioned windows at the front. There is also one two-light trefoil-headed casement with carved spandrels. At the rear, there are 20th-century two and four-light steel casements. The late 18th to early 19th-century extension at right angles is lit by two and three-light stone-mullioned casements, some of which are from the 20th century. The 17th-century range includes a three-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned casement at the rear. The house is reputed to contain a priest's room and a reset 14th-century doorway. The interior has not been inspected.
