Description
The barn and stable at Furzen Leaze Farmhouse is a large complex dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed rubble stone with flush quoins and features a stone slate roof. The stable is located to the north and includes a loft, accessed by a flight of 12 stone steps on the north side leading up to a loft door with a gable. The loft door has a recessed plank design and a timber lintel, while there is a kennel hole beneath the steps. To the right of the loft door is a stable door with a timber lintel and a cambered head, alongside a small 6-pane sash window to the left. The west gable also has a stable door and a small window, with a lean-to structure at the east end.
Adjacent to the south wall is a large barn, positioned at right angles to the stable. This barn features a very large two-storey dovecote porch on the west side, which has a pitched roof that runs parallel to the main roof and a lean-to on the right. The barn's entrance consists of double doors with a timber lintel and a brick relieving arch that has a projecting stone keystone above, along with two large X tie bar plates. There is a small square opening above the doors and a low lantern on the ridge. The barn has an opposed raking entry with a slate roof that was added in front of the original flush entry, which also has a brick relieving arch. The barn is divided into five bays, supported by collar and tie beam trusses, and features square vents throughout. Additionally, there is a lean-to structure between the porch and the rear wall of the stable on the west side, as well as along the east side, both covered with corrugated-iron roofs.
