Description

This building, comprised of The Silk Mill and The Granary, dates to approximately 1800, although it incorporates earlier fabric from 17th-century houses. It is constructed of ashlar with a slate roof, featuring coped verges and four gabled dormers. The front elevation has four windows, which are glazing bar sashes. Late 19th-century additions provide bays on the ground floor; a full doorcase with a half-glazed door and arched fanlight is positioned to the left of centre, with a modillion cornice over the fanlight. To the right of centre are half-glazed doors with a traceried overlight. Contemporary cast-iron railings with an arcaded pattern and studded top rails are situated outside of each bay and their outer ends ramp up to the wall.

A long range, dating to approximately 1700, extends to the south-west (rear) and features mullioned and mullion-and-transom windows, which have been modernised and converted into The Silk Mill. A shorter three-storey range, constructed of squared rubble, stands to the north-west. This range has chamfered eaves and two windows on the second floor, which are of a three-light mullion design and has been converted into The Granary.
