Description

Nos 1, 2 and 3, known as Crown Cottage, date from circa 1700, with alterations and a front to the west that appears to be older. No 3 is dated 1789 on its doorway facing the road. A significant conversion and remodelling occurred in the mid to late 19th century, dramatically altering the building's character. The two-storey facade facing the road has coursed rubble construction and a machine tile roof. The window openings are irregular, with modern casements on the first floor and fixed glazing bar windows on the ground floor. Ledged doors provide access. A lower hipped roof extension has been added to the left side of the building, forming the Crown Cottage section. The rear elevation rises to three and a half storeys (two and a half storeys for Crown Cottage) and features moulded mullion windows of two and three lights, alongside later windows. A low cast-iron boundary railing with fleur-de-lys motifs runs along the north-east side of the property.
