Description

The Henry and Harman Grisewood monument is located in the churchyard of the Church of St. Peter, approximately 4.5 meters east of the east end of the chancel. This Grade II listed monument commemorates Henry Grisewood, who died in 1874, his wife Anne, who died in 1893, and their sons Frederick, who died in 1876, and Henry, who died in 1886. It also honors Harman Grisewood, who died in 1871.

The monument for Henry Grisewood features a recumbent stone with a raised central ridge running east-west. At the west end, there is an upright monument on a square plinth with moulded capping. Inscriptions are set within pointed blind arches, which are flanked by columns with foliate capitals on the east and west faces. The north and south sides display female figures, one leaning on an anchor and the other holding a lily, within the arches. The design includes foliate decoration in the spandrels and a moulded capping above, topped with brattishing and a conical spirelet with a cross finial at the apex.

The monument to Harman Grisewood is located about 2 meters to the south. It consists of a recumbent stone with a raised central ridge and a square cross shaft on a stepped square base at the west end. A figure of an angel is placed within a gabled niche halfway up the shaft. Harman Grisewood was a patron of the Church of St. Peter.
