Description
No 1 on Church Street is a corner house dating from the mid to late 17th century. It is constructed of ashlar with rendered gables and features a Cotswold stone slate roof with large stone stacks. The building has a square shape topped with a large cross-gabled roof.
The facade facing Church Street includes a two-storey ashlar porch with a tall parapet, while the corner has been filled in with a single-storey shop, likely from the 19th century. On the first floor, there are three 18-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars. Originally, there were five sash windows, but the center one has been blocked on the Long Street facade, and the left one has been blocked on the Church Street side. These windows have beaded stone jambs and a continuous dripmould. Both gables feature a range of windows, which may have been part of a former weaving shed. The roofline is raised at the corner.
The ground floor includes a shop front facing Long Street. The porch on Church Street has a 19th-century half-glazed door with two flush panels and a narrow four-pane sash window above it.
