Description

The building is a mid-17th century market house, originally two cottages in a row and later combined into one. Constructed of coursed squared and dressed limestone with a stone slate roof, it is rectangular with a rear extension at right angles. The front facade has a four-windowed arrangement, featuring 19th or 20th century two and three-light casements. Some windows have horizontal glazing bars only. All windows have timber lintels. A flat-chamfered surround to the first-floor window suggests the facade was once lit by stone mullioned casements. A 20th century part-glazed front door is situated off-centre to the left of a step, and a blocked entrance is located far to the left. The interior includes tie beams with flat chamfers and run-out stops, an open fireplace with a bressumer beam and ash pit.
