Description
The Union is a hotel located in Northleach, originally built in the mid-17th century and later altered and expanded in the 19th century. The building features an ashlar facade made of coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof and ashlar stacks. It has an 'L'-shaped plan, with three right-hand bays facing the main street that were added in the 19th century. The left-hand bays, which were originally a triple-gabled 17th-century stone-mullioned street front, were rebuilt in the 19th century. At the rear, there is a mid-17th-century range that runs at right angles. The ground floor has four 16-pane sash windows with keystone surrounds, while the first floor features four 12-pane sash windows. A five-panel 19th-century door is set within a 'Tudor'-arched surround with an off-centre left keystone. There is also a double-width access to the rear on the far right. Additionally, two hollow-chamfered 3-light stone-mullioned casements light the first floor of the mid-17th-century range at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
