Description
West House is a house in a row, dating from the mid 17th century to the early 18th century, with some mid to late 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble and has a stone slate roof, featuring a basically rectangular plan. The building is three storeys high with a two-windowed facade. The ground floor has two large top-opening 20th-century casements without glazing bars. The first floor has one two-light and one three-light 20th-century casement, with the two-light window having a stone surround. The second floor features two double-chamfered two-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods, although one has had its stone mullion removed. The original fenestration was likely all stone-mullioned casements. There is a part-glazed 20th-century door on the left with a timber lintel, and keystones indicate a former narrow doorway that is now blocked. Inside, there is a through passage containing a griddle oven, which is a seat-like stone structure heated from underneath. The building was formerly known as West's Dairy.
