Description

The covered yard and cow houses at Beer Furlong Buildings, dated 1870 for T.S. Bazley, are a notable example of a planned farmstead. Constructed from coursed rock-faced rubble limestone, the buildings feature roofs made of corrugated asbestos and Welsh slate. The covered yard runs from north to south, flanked by cow houses on either side, with projecting shelter sheds on the east and west.

At the south end, there are three low-pitched gables, with the central gable being larger and higher, featuring a large pointed archway. Above this archway is the Bazley monogram and a datestone. The lower gabled ranges have circular gable vents and plank sliding doors. The sides of the cow houses include segmental arched casements that face the yards. The covered yard roof has a tall louvred ridge-vent topped with a spirelet and an iron weathervane.

At the north end, there are two cart shed ranges positioned at right angles to the central block, each with plank doors. The main range has a low-pitched gable with segmental arched openings below for the loft and ground floor levels. The shelter sheds, which project at right angles to the main block and run parallel to the cart sheds, are open to the yards on the south side and have a timber post and beam frontage. An east-facing cart shed range forms the end return to the east shelter shed. A 20th-century covered yard structure to the east of the main block is not considered of special interest.

Inside, the central covered yard features an open queen post truss roof, while the interiors of the other parts of the building have not been inspected.
