Description
Number 43 is a former estate cottage, now functioning as a social club, dating from the early 19th century. The building is constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone, topped with a stone slate roof. It features four ashlar stacks, two of which have been restored in the 19th century. The structure has a long rectangular plan and is 1.5 storeys high.
The first floor has five half dormers, each with 2-light stone-mullioned casements. The ground floor includes six similar casements with stopped hoods. There is a 20th-century part-glazed door to No 43 on the far left, and two additional 20th-century plank doors to the right. All doors are adorned with flat canopies that have moulded margins and are supported by moulded brackets. A blocked doorway with a flat canopy and moulded brackets is located in the right gable end. The building has gable end and axial stacks, as well as flat coping at the gable ends and dormers, with moulded kneelers.
The property also includes outbuildings that are linked to the main structure by walls, which have a long rectangular plan. A coursed squared and dressed limestone wall approximately 2 meters high runs at right angles to the main building, connecting Nos 43 to No 42. The interiors have not been inspected. This property is owned by the National Trust.
