Description

The Vicarage, built in the mid-18th century, is a detached structure that underwent rebuilding around 1840, with further enlargements in 1857 and 1875, and alterations in 1911. It is constructed from coursed rubble limestone, with ashlar and brick chimneys, and features a stone slate roof. The building is two stories high with an attic and has two attached archways on its north side, one of which spans the church path.

The south front originally had three windows, featuring 12-pane sash windows with plain surrounds. The leftmost window has been replaced by a canted two-storey bay window topped with a hipped roof. The former central doorway, which had an oval arch and a flat porch hood supported by brackets and Tuscan pilasters, now includes a panelled door with a cobweb fanlight. The front has been extended to the right by one window, and there is a central gabled roof dormer.

On the east end, a 1875 addition projects forward to the right and features pointed archways leading to a porch, with a buttressed southeast corner. The north side displays two roll-moulded parapet gables adorned with flower head finials, and has three windows featuring Tudor arched mullioned casements with hoodmoulds. The lower part to the left connects to a war memorial arch built between 1914 and 1919. To the right, the garden wall includes a moulded four-centred archway flanked by octagonal buttresses and a decorative iron gate. The Vicarage and its archways hold an important position next to the Church of St. John the Baptist.
