Description

Oak House is an early 18th-century town house located on the east side of The Chipping in Tetbury. The building is constructed of rubble stone with a random-coursed front, set on a plinth, and has a tile roof with dressed stone stacks. It comprises a double range linked by a hipped section to the right. The house has two storeys and five windows on the upper floor, featuring renewed 12-pane sashes with large lintels and quoins. There are four similar windows on the ground floor, also with large lintels and keystones. A central painted stone doorcase includes attached Roman Doric columns, a frieze, cornice, and pediment, enclosing a six-panel door with four fielded panels and the top two glazed. A moulded stone cornice tops the building. Internally, a room on the ground floor to the left retains wall panelling, and many internal shutters remain.
