Description
This building is a barn and open-fronted store, dating from the 18th to early 19th century, located approximately 50 meters south of The Manor in Coln St Dennis. It is constructed from limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins. The barn has a stone slate roof, while the open-fronted store features a thatched roof.
The barn has a rectangular plan and includes a projecting porch on the west side. The open-fronted store is situated at the south gable end. The west front of the barn features a gabled porch that projects and has double plank doors positioned off-centre to the right. There is a blocked pitching window above with a timber lintel, and a single-width doorway on the left-hand side. The north gable end has three-light hollow-chamfered stone-mullioned windows with stopped hoods, along with pigeon holes and landings near the apex of the gable.
On the eastern (roadside) elevation, there are double plank doors off-centre to the left and a 2-light window in the upper left. The open-fronted store consists of four bays, which are divided by circular stone-built columns. The interior of the barn has not been inspected. The east front, facing the road, is a prominent feature in the center of the village.
