Description
This is a barn and attached outbuildings located approximately 20 meters north of Sycamore House, dated 1792, as indicated by a triangular datestone at the top of the porch gable. The barn is made of roughly coursed limestone rubble with dressed quoins. The roof is covered with stone slate on the side facing the house and slate on the rear, while a lean-to has a corrugated asbestos roof. The outbuildings feature concrete tiles and corrugated asbestos.
The barn has a rectangular plan with a projecting gabled porch on the south side and a lean-to to the right of the porch. The outbuildings are located at the left gable end. The barn entrance is double width with a sliding door that has glazing above, leading into the gabled porch. Inside the porch, there is a pigeon loft with projecting stone landings on the gable and side walls. A plank door is located in the left-hand wall of the porch, matching a blocked doorway on the opposite wall. There are double doors within the lean-to to the right of the porch, and a former double width opening in the wall opposite the porch has been blocked with a window inserted. The right gable end features a quatrefoil owl hole at the apex and two triangular pigeon holes lower down, while the left gable end has a single triangular owl hole.
The attached outbuildings consist of a main range that is single storey with a loft accessed via a stable door with a dressed stone surround and keystone in the side wall. There is a single light casement to the right and a 19th-century plank door with strap hinges in the gable end leading to the loft, with a shuttered window below. A single storey extension projects forward to the left of the stable door, featuring a two-light steel casement with horizontal glazing bars in the gable end. Inside the barn, there are four bays with original tie beams and 20th-century struts.
