Description

Saintbury Cross Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse, with 19th-century alterations and replacement work. It is located on the road leading to Saintbury village. The building is constructed of coursed, squared, and dressed limestone, with a limestone slate roof featuring flat coping to the gable ends and roll-cross saddles to the ridge. There are three ashlar stacks: one from the left gable end, one from the right gable end of an extension, and one near the meeting of the ridges. The farmhouse has an asymmetrical “T” shape, with the original section running parallel to the main road (A46) and an extension to the rear, with a farm store attached to the extension's gable end. The house itself is a single storey with an attic, lit by Cotswold dormers. The windows are irregularly placed, and are stone-mullioned casements with 1, 2, 3, and 4 lights, each with a stopped hood; one window has a king mullion. A blocked single garret window is present in the left gable end. A 20th-century plank door is situated in the lower left side of the rear extension, featuring a single diamond light and a stopped hood above.
