Description
The Shurmer Monument is a chest tomb located about 9 meters northeast of the north door in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary in Barnsley Village. It commemorates Hannah Shurmer, who died in 1772, but the tomb likely dates from the earlier 18th century. The monument is made of limestone and features a flat top, a moulded plinth, and capping. All sides have plain recessed panels. At the time of the survey in February 1985, the tomb was partially overgrown and showed signs of cracking on the top.
