Description

Numbers 41 and 42 are a pair of semi-detached estate cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed squared and dressed limestone and feature a stone slate roof. The cottages have a long rectangular plan and a symmetrical one-and-a-half storey facade. The first floor has four half dormers, each with 2-light stone-mullioned casements. The ground floor includes four 2-light stone-mullioned casements with stopped hoods. Number 41 has a 19th-century plank door, while Number 42 has a 20th-century part-glazed door. Both doors are topped with flat canopies that have moulded margins on moulded brackets. The cottages have gable-end and axial stacks, which are set on plinths, and flat coping at the gable ends and dormers, along with moulded kneelers. There are also coursed squared and dressed limestone walls, approximately 2 meters high, that link Number 41 to Number 40 and Number 42 to Number 43. The property is owned by the National Trust.
