Description
The churchyard gate piers and wall, located approximately 20 meters northwest of the west end of the Church of the Holy Apostles in Charlton Kings, date from around 1871. The pair of gate piers, likely supplied by Boultons of Cheltenham, are made of limestone ashlar and feature cross-gabled tops with cusping in the gables. The wall, which is attached to the northwest pier, extends for about 15 meters and stands approximately 2 meters high, stepping downwards to the west and topped with copings. Historical photographs from a 1926 guidebook show a third pier that served as a pedestrian entrance with gates. This structure is a significant feature of the streetscape and plays an important role in the setting of the Church of the Holy Apostles.
