Description
The drinking fountain, located at the junction with Cirencester Road, dates from around 1870 and was likely supplied by Boultons of Cheltenham. It is constructed from ashlar, featuring a mix of limestone and sandstone. The fountain has a square base set on a battered plinth, with four panels that include cusped arches and corner columns topped with carved capitals. Above these are crocketed gables that contain carved trefoils, and a crocketed spirelet crowns the structure. The west face is adorned with a carving of 'Christ with the woman at the well' along with the inscription: 'Praise God from whom all blessings flow'. The north face bears the inscription: 'The Public are expected to protect from Injury that which was erected for the public good'. A granite drinking bowl is situated on the west side. This fountain is part of a group that includes No. 175 London Road (Holy Apostles Old School) and the Church of the Holy Apostles, both designed by John Middleton.
