Description
Abbotsdene is a house dating from 1798 to 1806, designed by Thomas Billings, who was a surveyor. The house is constructed of brick with rendered surfaces, and has a slate valley roof. It features iron balconies and railings. The main three-storey section has three first-floor windows and a slightly-set-back one-window section to the right, along with a range to the left at the rear. The first floor has three tall 6/6 sash windows, and a single 8/8 sash. The ground floor has a six-panel front door with a fanlight and projecting hood, two 8/8 sashes, and a 2/2 sash. The third floor has sashes of various sizes: 4/8, 2/4, and 4/8. The house has end stacks with cornices on the main range, and a separate stack to the right. The first-floor windows on the main range are each accompanied by individual balconies. The garden front is two storeys high with a basement, and has five first-floor windows. It is stuccoed with horizontal rustication on the ground floor, and has a blocking course. A three-storey domestic wing is located to the right. The interior has not been inspected. Attached to the front are stick railings with urn finials. Thomas Billings was also involved in the development of The Park in Cheltenham.
