Description
Albion House and the attached railings at Bilton House are two houses, now converted into flats, built around 1820 to 1850. The buildings are made of stucco over brick, featuring a concealed roof, a brick ridge stack, and iron railings, along with a porch and balconies that have lead enrichments.
The exterior consists of three storeys with a basement and three first-floor windows. The entrance, located off-centre to the right, has a 20th-century glazed door under a porch with a tent roof and scalloped eaves. The first floor has replacement windows from around 1990, all set in plain reveals with stepped voussoirs, except for those on the first floor which have sills. A low parapet with copings crowns the building. The right return, which is No.51, features a late 20th-century door in a single-storey outshut.
Although the interior was not inspected, the first-floor windows have individual balconies with rod balusters decorated with rose and fleurs-de-lys motifs. There are also two similar balconies on the left return facing St James's Street. The railings attached to the left side continue across the front facade, displaying an alternating halberd and twist motif at the heads. The listing from 1983 noted tall 6/6 sash windows on the first floor, while the other windows are 3/3 sashes.
