Description
A terrace of eleven houses and attached railings, dating to approximately the 1820s and 1850s, located in Cheltenham. The houses are constructed of stucco over brick, with concealed roofs and brick party-wall stacks topped with cornices, one being stuccoed. Iron railings, gates, and balconies are also original features.
The houses are arranged over two storeys, presenting 41 first-floor windows in a 3:3:3:3:3:3:5:5:5:3:5 arrangement. The terrace slopes downwards between numbers 15 and 16, 17 and 18, and 19 and 20. External detailing includes horizontal rustication to the ground floor, except for number 22; a first-floor band; a frieze; a cornice; and a blocking course. The first floor features 6/6 sash windows, with some blind openings at numbers 18 and 20 set in plain reveals and sills. The ground floor has tripartite windows, with 6/6 sashes (number 22 being renewed as 1/1) set between 2/2 sashes within raised surrounds and channelled reveals. Solid porches with horizontal rustication across them support 4-panel doors, some partially glazed, which are where original. Projecting barriers are located between the 5-bay houses.
The interior of the houses has not been inspected. First-floor balconies are ornamented with enriched stick balusters. The area railings and gates have lancet-headed tops.
