Description
This is a terraced house, built around 1820 to 1850. It has been converted into flats and is located on an important corner site where London Road meets Hales Road. The exterior is stucco over brick, with a hidden roof and a cast- and wrought-iron verandah. The house has a double-depth plan, with a full-height service range at the rear.
It is three storeys high with a basement and has three windows on the first floor. Stucco detailing includes rustication on the ground floor, with a voussoir arch over the openings, a band above the first floor, a decorative frieze, a cornice, a blocking course, and copings. The windows are 6/6 sashes, taller on the first floor, set in plain reveals with sills. A renewed flight of steps leads to the entrance, which has a four-panel door and a fanlight.
Inside, the house is believed to have an original dogleg staircase with stick balusters and a wreathed handrail, although the interior was not inspected. The first-floor verandah features a double scroll design with embellished rods to the balustrade, along with scroll and oval motifs on the uprights and a Greek key frieze.
