Description
Numbers 23 and 25 are two houses built around 1820 to 1850. They are located on the west side of Old Bath Road in Cheltenham. The houses are constructed with stucco over brickwork, featuring a slate roof with a double pitch on the left-hand portion and a hipped roof elsewhere. Tall brick chimney stacks with cornices are present, with the left-hand stacks stuccoed. Iron railings are attached to the property.
The houses are two storeys high with a basement, and an attic, except on the left-hand side. They have five and three first-floor windows respectively. Stucco detailing includes continuous moulded sill bands on the ground and first floors; the attic sill band extends as a crowning band over the left two windows, which also have a low, coped parapet. All windows have tooled architraves, with the ground floor windows featuring floating cornices; a similar floating cornice sits above the entrances. The windows are mostly double-hung sashes with two panes per sash on the ground and first floors, set in plain reveals. The basement windows are 3-pane sashes, and the attic windows are 1-pane sashes with horns. The entrances are located in the third and eighth bays and consist of flights of roll-edged steps leading to recessed, panelled doors with sidelights and overlights. The hipped roof has wide eaves supported by brackets. The interior of the property was not inspected. Subsidiary iron railings on either side of the steps have embellished balusters and wreathed handrails.
