Description

Poolkeeper's Lodge is a lodge dating from 1871, designed by WH Knight. It is constructed of Flemish bond yellow brick with red brick bands, and has a gabled slate roof with decorative terracotta ridge tiles. A tall gault brick chimney stack rises from the centre, topped with a cornice. The building is in an L-shape, with each gabled range containing one first-floor window. The ground floor windows have stone lintels with cornices, and all windows are 1/1 sash designs in pairs. The reveals and sills are plain. There is a panelled front door, and decorative bargeboards to the gable ends. The interior remains uninspected. Though small, the lodge is more richly detailed than the nearby Pool and has survived in an unaltered state. It is closely associated with, and forms an essential part of the setting for, the Former Cheltenham College Swimming Baths.
