Description
The aedicule near the Keynsham Road entrance in Sandford Park, Cheltenham, dates from around 1880 to 1890 and was restored in 1991. It is a square, open-arched Gothic umbrella made of stone, featuring sandstone shafts. The arches have pierced cusping, and the structure includes a panelled cupola adorned with crocketed ridges and a finial. Originally, it was topped with a weather vane and served to shelter a drinking fountain. The aedicule is located on Westall Green, Lansdown Road. The central column has been removed, leaving a pendant. An inscription on the step below reads, "Presented to the Borough of Cheltenham by the Misses W..... (illegible) A B Wall Sc."
