Description
Elm Villa is a villa dating from approximately 1836 to 1875. It is constructed of stucco over brick, with a slate roof and stucco chimney stacks. The building is arranged in an L-shape, with two further stepped bays set back to the right. It is designed in the Tudor Gothic style.
The exterior has two storeys and a total of three first-floor windows (arranged 1:1:1). A gabled range projects from the left, followed by a narrow set-back bay, then a single-storey projecting porch, and lastly a further single-storey gabled bay set back to the right. The corners of the building are quoined, and the windows are framed by mouldings. A moulded band runs along the first floor, and there is a dripmould over the first-floor window on the left. The left range features a ground-floor canted bay with castellated detailing. Casement windows are present throughout. The entrance porch is distinguished by a four-centred arch and dripmould, leading to panelled double doors within a four-centred surround. The porch has its own gable and copings. Decorative barge-boards adorn the gables, except for the right-hand gable which features a band and copings, with a finial at the apex.
The interior of the building was not inspected during the listing process.
The group value context of this building is that it is considered to be of architectural merit.
