Description
The bridge in Pump Room Gardens adjacent to Evesham Road in Cheltenham was built between 1830 and 1840 and designed by architect John Forbes. It is constructed of stone with horizontal rustication and features balustraded parapets. There are two off-centre urns on each side of the bridge, along with a central coat of arms. Historically, Pittville was developed for Joseph Pitt between 1825 and 1842, with the overall layout designed by Forbes, making the park its focal point. This bridge is one of a pair that leads to Pittville Lake and is noted for its accomplished and subtle design. It is located near railings, gates, and gate piers over Wymans Brook that lead to the viaduct on Evesham Road.
