Description
This range of farm buildings, located about 20 meters north of Derriton Farmhouse, dates from the early 19th century and is likely contemporary with the farmhouse. Constructed from stone rubble with stone and brick detailing, the buildings have slate roofs. The pigsty, which is cement-washed, features a half-hipped roof at the left end, while the shippon has a half-hipped roof at the left and a gabled roof at the right. The stable has a half-hipped roof at the right end.
The range forms the northern side of the farmyard at Derriton Farm. The single-storey pigsties have four feeding doors with strap hinges. The shippon and stable are two-storey structures, with the stable set slightly back from the shippon and under a lower roof. The shippon has three entrances with segmental arches made of stone voussoirs, and the central left entrance is topped with a slate canopy supported by timber brackets. The stable block features a central doorway flanked by windows, all adorned with polychromatic segmental brick arches, as well as a row of pigeon holes with flight ledges beneath the eaves. There is also a loft entrance on the right side of the stable.
This range of buildings creates an attractive group with Derriton Farmhouse.
