Description
Lower Woodley Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It was rebuilt in the early 19th century, based on an original structure from the late 17th or early 18th century, with some alterations and an addition made in the 20th century. The exterior is rendered and lined out, featuring an asbestos slate roof and an asbestos slate-hung gable end on the left, along with a brick gable stack. The sides and part of the rear are made of rubble.
The layout likely started as a two-room plan with a through passage, but it has been modified to have principal rooms on either side of a central entrance hall, which features a wide cross passage that contains a staircase at the rear. Behind the main rooms are service areas, including a kitchen on the left and a possible former dairy on the right.
The house is two stories tall and has three windows, all of which are 20-pane sashes set in exposed boxes. The central entrance has a gabled porch with a half-glazed inner door in a moulded frame. To the left, there is a lower two-story 20th-century addition that includes two casements and a lean-to. The right side has a blank gable end and a two-span roof over a narrow rear addition, with no visible joint. There is a 20th-century two-light casement window at the ground floor on the right, featuring a timber lintel.
The left side has an open area under the lean-to with a half-glazed door and two 20th-century casements on the first floor. The rear is rendered on the right with a straight joint to the left. To the left of this joint, there is a ground floor 20th-century casement with a timber lintel, and a larger casement at the first floor. To the right of the joint, there is an upper opening with a half-glazed door at the rear and side, while the lower wing has a 20th-century ground floor casement, a half-hipped roof, and a 20th-century light in the lean-to. The interior has not been inspected.
