Description
Derriton Farmhouse is an early 19th-century farmhouse constructed of stone rubble and rendered at the front, topped with a bitumen-painted slate roof that is gabled at both ends. It features end stacks, with the right-hand stack projecting. The layout consists of 1½ rooms deep and 2 rooms wide, with the main rooms located on either side of a central entrance passage. The stairs are positioned at the rear of the passage, and there are smaller service rooms to the left and right at the back. Additionally, there is a later single-storey lean-to that is heated and adjoins the left side of the house.
The farmhouse stands two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-bay front. It includes a central gabled porch with a slated roof, which has an unusual short lean-to section between the house's front wall and the gable. The porch's outer doorway features a segmental arch made of stone voussoirs. Above the porch, there is a 12-pane sash window, while the other windows are tripartite sashes, with 12 panes in the center and 4 in the flanking lights. The interior has not been inspected. The garden in front of the house is enclosed by iron railings that are contemporary with the building, set on a low stone rubble wall.
Derriton Farmhouse is a fine example of an early 19th-century farmhouse with a well-preserved exterior, and it is likely that contemporary interior features remain intact. The farmhouse also forms a cohesive group with its associated farm buildings.
