Description
A pair of cottages with a post office, likely dating back to the 17th century, possibly with earlier origins. The walls are rendered cob and the roof is thatched. A rubble stack with a brick shaft stands at the rear of the left-hand end, and there is a brick axial stack. The original layout is unclear, but the cottages currently appear to have a two-room plan each, with the post office occupying the room at the right-hand end. The front has an asymmetrical four-window arrangement. Lark Rise, on the left, has a late 19th or early 20th-century two-light casement window to the right and a single-light window below. A thatched porch with a 20th-century plank door is on the left. Pippin Cottage has late 19th or early 20th-century small-paned two-light casement windows, and a thatched porch with a 20th-century plank door in the centre. The post office has a 20th-century part-glazed entrance door on the right-hand end. The interior was inaccessible during the survey, but it is likely to contain features such as ceiling beams and open fireplaces, and possibly an early roof structure.
