Description

A pair of cottages, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, stand in Broadwoodkelly. They are constructed from stone rubble, with rendered walls on the sides and rear, and have a hipped thatched roof. One brick stack is visible at the left end, and a stone stack with a brick shaft at the right end. Originally, each cottage followed a two-room plan, with one room having a heating source. The front facade presents a symmetrical appearance with four windows, Walsall Cottage on the right and Clarktown Cottage on the left. The windows are late 19th and 20th century two-light casements, arranged two per floor, with brick arches above. A 20th-century corrugated iron gable-ended porch fronts Walsall Cottage, concealing a 19th-century plank door. Clarktown Cottage has a 20th-century lean-to porch on the right-hand end wall, containing a part-glazed door. A late 19th-century outshut extends from the rear of the right-hand end of Clarktown Cottage. The interior has not been inspected.
