Description

Reed Cottage is a cottage likely dating from the mid to later 17th century, situated on Hatherleigh High Street. It is constructed of rendered cob with a gable ended thatched roof, featuring a brick stack at the right gable end. Originally, the cottage probably comprised two rooms, with an entrance positioned opposite the stack at the right-hand end of the larger room and a small service room to its left. A 20th-century addition extends from the rear. The facade presents as asymmetrical, with two windows. On the ground floor is a large 20th-century 2-light casement window to the right of centre, alongside a surviving 17th-century 2-light wooden mullion window with chamfered details. The first floor has an 18th-century 3-light wooden mullion window with square section framing. A 20th-century panelled door is located to the right. The interior was inaccessible at the time of survey.
