Description
The building is a disused maltings located about 20 meters west of Park Cottage, dating from the late 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features hipped slate roofs. The rectangular malthouse has a stone cornice below the eaves, and a kiln adjoins the malthouse at the southwest, forming an L-shape. The malthouse is three stories tall, while the kiln is two stories. The entrance is on the west side, with a two and one-window front. The entrance is located on the right side of the malthouse, with one blocked window to the left of the door and a two-light window to the kiln. There are two first-floor windows in the malthouse, one of which is blocked, and one two-light first-floor window in the kiln. The malthouse has one two-light window on the second floor, and some windows feature leaded panes. The north side of the malthouse has two and one-light windows with iron stanchions and external shutters.
Inside, the second floor of the malthouse is missing, while the first floor is plastered. The kiln contains a furnace with a coved brick flue and square perforated kiln tiles on the drying floor. The maltings is situated on the main road through Coryton parish, south of the now disused Coryton slate quarry. Adjacent to the maltings is a spoil heap from lime kilns, suggesting that this area may have been part of a semi-industrial complex on the Coryton estate.
